President’s message
Jay Ferron

Welcome to our July Reports issue. In this issues I would like to tell you about some new news. Please share this with your webmasters.

We are in the process of moving our internet services to a new provider. Our past provider donated services for the last 2 years, but is unable to continue that donation. A group of volunteers created a committee: James Scharoun, Guy Hermann, and Jay Ferron. We looked at the needs of APCUG and you, the member groups.

Our mission was to meet the following goals:

  1. Easy to use
  2. Reliability
  3. Unlimited Web Sites
  4. Unlimited Bandwidth / Transfer
  5. Unlimited Disk Space
  6. Web hosting only and can’t be used for file sharing, file serving, media sharing or media serving applications.
  7. Automated Domain Registration
  8. Email Hosting with unlimited Accounts
    1. Virus Scanning
    2. Spam Protection,
    3. POP3 & SMTP, IMAP (over SSL)
    4. Webmail
    5. Email Aliases
    6. Mailing Lists,
    7. Auto responders
    8. Address Book
  9. Unlimited FTP Accounts

Additional requirements

In July, August time frame we will be migrating our current sites. If you group has its own domain name, your will need to chance your DNS records. Look for e-mail about the process in late July.

If your group has its own domain name and you like e-mail that will be easy to enable. If you group is using apcug.net for you hosting like http://xxx.apcug.net then you need to do nothing. However if you like the e-mail service you will need to register a Domain Name (under 10 dollars a year). Full instruction will be sent out in Late July, early August.

We feel this new host offering is a big benefit for paid APCUG member user group, now you can add addition services to your group including e-mail.

Stay tuned for more news on this new service.

As we will be changing providers there will be some down time, We will stop the FTP site for your group as we migrate to the new site. If you have any issues or concerns, you can contact OLS@apcug.net.

We will also be moving the sharepoint.apcug.net and the ugls.apcug.net sites to a new hosting company. This will require a week or so of down time. A notice will posted on the site and e-mail will be sent.

I thank all of the volunteers for all the hard work that they are currently doing.
