Midwest Regional Conference

The Midwest Region Conference was held September 19, 20, and 21, 2008 in Chicago at the Prairie State College. The conference opened on Friday afternoon for registrations. Snacks were served from 6:00 – 7:00 PM giving attendees a chance to mingle. The evening started off with a presentation by the Department of Homeland Security. Robin Zeigler then took us on a tour with Google Earth.

Saturday started off with a continental breakfast. Assistive Technology Exchange Network was in the parking lot from 8:00-12:00 to collect old computer equipment. After introductions and announcements in the auditorium, the day was filled with information and demonstrations. Vendor presentations were “Power Director 7 – Create Your Own Video” by CyberLink, “How to Solve Your Computer Problems, Protect Your Identity, Find Your Family Tree and Make Superior Slide Shows on DVD-All in One Lazy Afternoon” by Web Working Services, “Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 12” by Pinnacle, “Microsoft Robotics” by Microsoft, “Magnify and Enhance What’s On Your Computer Screen” by Ai Squared, and “Corel Draw X4 and Paint Shop Pro” presented remotely by Corel. Round Table sessions were Senior Net, Ways To Do A Program Remotely, Fundraising For Your User Group, Understanding Microsoft Office 2007 Ribbons, Presidents and Advisors Round Table, Program Directors Brainstorming Session, How to Give Effective Presentations In A Box, A Little PC Cleaning Pays Off, and What Is Going On In APCUG-Live Meeting.

Sunday was the Vendor Fair followed by another presentation of “Google Earth, Sky, and Maps”. Prize drawings wrapped up the conference.
