The Holiday Season is upon us. Some of the User Groups deviated from their usual meeting agenda to do a little socializing and celebrating.
The Bowling Green Association Area Microcomputer User Group had a potluck with meat and drinks furnished by BGAMUG and awards.
During the meal a projector ran a slideshow of all the photos taken during the year with soft Christmas music playing in the background. One year they showed several members baby pictures and let the audience guess who they were.
The “Mr. BGAMUG” award, a nice heavy crystal star, was awarded to the VP of Technology Chuck Thomas for outstanding service to the club and community.
“Angel Awards” were given to Edwin Phelps for above-and-beyond service to another member of a group that the club helps, and Gene Iglehart who had given away about 170 computers.
Years ago they would ask members to bring a wrapped gift, (Max. $20 value), to exchange but they now bring items for a couple of their ongoing Jerry Award Winning community service projects. The gifts are later distributed to residents of a nursing home and low income housing apartment complex where we help with their computer labs.
Lake County Area Computer Enthusiasts held its annual Holiday Raffle and Party. It is something their members look forward to, as it is a time for good food and lots of prizes. For the past three years they were able to raffle a nice laptop, digital camera and printer as other main prizes.
The Quad Cities Computer Society held a Holiday Event. The attending members unscrambled computer terms. A sheet with 20 Questions was handed to members. An example of the questions were: Who still has their first computer? Who attended the Spreadsheet SIG? Who drove over 30 miles to the meeting?, etc. This engaged members in conversation as they had to ask other members for the answers. It was a good ice breaker. After refreshments, a white elephant gift exchange (of computer related items) concluded the evening.
