User Group Partnerships With Blood Donor Agencies
by Gabe Goldberg

Just down the street from Capital PC User Group's (CPCUG) state-of-the-art Annandale training center is another high-tech community service organization: Inova's Blood Donor Services headquarters (3289 Woodburn Road, Suite 010, just off Gallows Road at the Beltway).

CPCUG and Inova are collaborating by publicizing each others' operations: they'll highlight our classes and we'll encourage members/students to donate blood. Visit www.inova.org/inovapublic.srt/donateblood/index.jsp for information

We've all heard appeals for blood donations; the Web site notes that donations are most needed and are in shortest supply around holidays. I encourage CPCUG members living near any of Inova Blood Services' several centers to spend the hour or so it takes to donate a pint of blood. The Annandale Inova office allows walk-in donations and donation by appointment.

The process is hardly bothersome, the people at Inova are top-notch, and they'll give you drinks and sweets when you're done - and you'll feel good about it. Since I live near both the CPCUG training center and the Annandale Blood Services Center, I've been donating regularly, about every eight weeks, the minimum time allowed between donations. I just received my three-gallon pin. I'm glad they didn't take it all at once.
